About Billy Wright

Hello, everybody! My name is Billy Wright. I am studying Sequential Art and Animation at the Atlanta campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design. I was always interested in drawing when I was growing up, but it wasn't until I was pulled out of the fourth grade to be home-schooled that I realized that that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I wrote and drew my first comic book story it was merely to pass the time, but as the years went on I continued to improve my work, and my passion for it grew as well. I primarily taught myself how to draw by watching Batman, the Animated Series and reading a bunch of books about drawing comic books. As for animation, I didn't create my first animated video until after I was already at SCAD-Atlanta unless one wants to count the lost stop-motion animated video that I made with my brother. I discovered my passion for animation in the Animation I class, but also as a member of the SCAD-Atlanta Animation Society. There is no greater artistic thrill than seeing your artwork come alive. As much as I had dreamed of becoming a writer/penciler/colorist for a comic book company I cannot totally rule out becoming an animator. Of course, if I could do both that would be fantastic.

When it comes to making art whether it's comic books and animations I want to affect the audience in some way. I care very deeply about my audience, and I don't want them to just read a comic book or novel or watch an animated film and move on. I want them to keep thinking about it even when it's no longer in front of them because it makes it a whole different experience. That's why most of my stories are on a psychological level. I want to pull the audience into the mind of the protagonist or antagonist, in some cases. I want them to feel what the characters are feeling. I want them to think about each situation as if THEY were in the story. Would they do anything different?

The name of this blog is "The Boiling Teapot," and it comes from my mom, who used to say that I was like a boiling teapot ready to explode because of all the things that I keep to myself. I certainly have a piece to speak, and by Jove, I am going to speak it!!! I hope that you all enjoy it as I will talk about everything that I consider art...perhaps even things that are not considered art in my opinion. Don't expect politics or sports unless they affect art in someway. Most importantly, this is a place where you'll be able to see how my mind approaches each artwork that I create from the thumbnails to the finish piece.
